Notting Hill is prettiest when you stop treating it like a checklist. The good part begins between the polished shopfronts: trays of old brooches, faded maps, silver spoons and postcards that once crossed oceans.

Walk slowly and look below eye level. The most charming find is rarely the grandest antique; it is usually the odd little thing that feels as if it has been waiting specifically for you.

FIELD NOTE

Start early, then reward yourself with coffee once the street gets busy. Ask before photographing close-up objects.
